The Silence Beyond Eden

Image
The Silence Beyond Eden  The sky, dust-laden, wears the stains of ash, while restless souls gather pearls of eternity, yet their hunger remains unsatiated. Frontiers bleed, dreams crumble into ruins, and nameless children inherit an unknown Eden's ashes. Once, your footsteps consecrated the earth, your breath sanctified the wandering winds. Now, iron and fire dictate the fate of spring. Who taught the flowers to fear their blossoming? Perhaps the giants still play their ancient game, moving kingdoms across the chessboard of the earth, while pawns of flesh and blood vanish beneath their shadows. And you remain silent, beyond the ruins of paradise. Is your silence the final mystery of creation, or the permission through which the giants reign?

Camouflage

Camouflage Suddenly, the lights went out. Darkness embraced the whole resting lounge. The lady of healing was weary after performing a healing incision. Soon she fell asleep, sitting alone on the sofa in the room. But the clock had already struck twelve— her seat at the dining table lay vacant. That night, no one called her to share a morsel of food. On the third floor, the drunken revelry continued— voices rose, music thundered, and the DJ played through the night. Meanwhile, the sleeping doctor was carried away to a chamber and tortured with bestial cruelty until her soul left her body. The healers of life, that night, turned into monsters. From that day, the demons spread their net, washing away the stains of their crime. An artful plot of those entrusted to keep the law composed a dark drama— blinding the truth beneath layers of camouflage. Her pain mingled with the endless sighs of her parents and still, each day, reminds us of the falsity of civilization— how close we remain...

Unfinished Dream

Image
Unfinished Dream Two boys ran from the bend of High Street— silent Winchester, Hampshire—after school, laughter skipping ahead of them, tennis rackets swinging light beside their shadows. Then— an ear-splitting rupture shattered the afternoon. The city’s calm split open. People scattered— fear breaking their voices mid-cry. When the sirens came, the street lay stunned: bodies fallen like broken dolls, groceries bleeding into dust. Police dogs lowered their noses to the metallic scent of ruin, tracking ghosts through smoke and panic. Two dreams never reached the court. Innocent lives— again made prey for the hyenas that roam in daylight. By  Goutam Roy

Earrings

Earrings  Leave your bed, my dear— won't you go to the car shed? his wife asked softly.  "I am too tired," he said. "If I rest, it may be forever."  "Oh no—we have no groceries for cooking. Please go."  "Then take my temperature first." Her hand found his forehead— scorching fire, slick with fever.  "Oh my God," she cried, "I will not let you go to the shed. I'll manage somehow—you need treatment." But then, their son Mike's school fees echoed sharp in her mind.  "My earrings," she whimpered, "I'll pawn them."  "No, no—they're all we have from our wedding day," he said weakly.  "But your life is worth more than gold." She sighed, and unclasped her ears— their faint metallic glint fading.  By Goutam Roy
